Do you use Infographics?

Infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data, or knowledge intended to present information quickly and clearly. They can improve cognition by utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual system’s ability to see patterns and trends1.

Infographics are depictions or illustrations of data, processes, and information. They are a useful tool for learning (in Flipped Learning 3.0 mainly in the Individual Learning Space). Unlike longer text, they show a combination of text and illustrations. This makes it easier to convey the content and is, basically, a form of multimedia content. Unfortunately, the usual infographics are static and thus not active learning content. However, they can be extended to active learning content through additional tasks.

Infographics in training

Infographics transport some information in an easily understandable way. This is a benefit for educators and trainers: They can use infographics to explain difficult concepts or break down complex information to make it easier to understand.

How to create Infographics?

CANVA offers a huge number of well-designed templates. You may create single-paged graphics as well as multipage ones.

The creation of a new infographic is a simple process, but needs some preparation work.

  • Prepare the content you want to share.
  • Split it into three, up to five logical items.
  • Find a short, easy-to-understand heading for each item.
  • Create a short text transporting the core message, matching with the heading.
  • Search for well-fitting illustrations and pictures of your items.
  • Look for an appealing template appropriate to your content.
  • Fill in your prepared content.

How to share?

You can share infographics in various formats:

  • Printable content works best as a PDF
  • You may export the ready-made graphic as a picture. You always should select the PNG format to avoid the typical artefacts of JPEG.

Why use Infographics?

There’s a reason why infographics are so popular: They are fun, engaging, colorful, and easy to understand. Furthermore, commonly used means (like the Internet) make it easy to share them. Additionally, they have an added value for all kinds of content creators, including businesses, educators, and non-profits.

Social media also makes it possible to share Infographics with a broad scope of people. Since these types of social networks are focusing on short information, and it is unusual to share longer texts, Infographics are an appropriate way to share information.

Alternatives to CANVA

A well-known alternative to CANVA is Visme: The free account offers 100 MB of memory (to save your designs), a limited number of templates & design assets, and some support.
